Missing Mom Monday- Week 2

Here we are with the newest addition to our family:

Frosty Gouldman

I brought out several different scarves and hats and Jase looked through them and picked out Frosty's outfit.

Still Snowing....

This snow update is for my brother who moved to GA and is missing out on all this snow! Don't know whether that is a blessing or a shame. I for one am LOVING it! Until it stops me from getting to work and making money, that is. On a very good note: Rob is home! Their equipment starting breaking so they had to call it quits. We having amazing neighbors who have a 4x4 and drove 25 miles there and 25 miles back in this mess to bring him home. When I heard he was coming home I thought I would be nice and clear him a path way from the front door to the road. I couldn't even get out the door! I had to jimmie my way out slamming the door to push snow out of the way. I got to the end of the sidewalk by the time he got home. Its the thought that counts, right? That was at about 11;30 and there is already another 6 inches of snow on the steps and sidewalk! It has gotten to the point where we can't get actual measurements and the pictures aren't giving the beauty of this snow justice or the amount of snow justice. We can't measure it because the layer of sleet that we got through the night is so solid I can't get the tape measure down through it. Maybe when Rob wakes up we will find another method. Plus, because of the crazy wind, snow drifts are everywhere. The blowing snow is making for a beautiful scene. The trunks of the trees are covered and parts of our privacy fence are blanketed it white, too. It's like every surface, horizontal or vertical has been painted white. You can't really see the amounts because it isn't staying on the surfaces of things. It is getting so high that the snow is sliding off the roof tops, table tops, and any surface that is raised from the ground. I think it is safe to say that if it keeps up at this magnitude my car will be completely buried. HaHa! Jase just went to the back door and said, "Whoa Mommy, we got a lot!" I was just telling my brother how he isn't really realizing how significant a storm this is because since he's been old enough to play in the snow we have gotten pretty significant storms. I guess we have reached a new level considering he is commenting on it. And they are now giving estimates for Tuesday's storm. Yes! More snow on Tues! 5-6 inches more! AHHHHH!!! LOL You can tell people are starting go stir crazy because people are starting to venture out. Jase wants to go out now because he saw his friend outside going for a sleigh ride. I think we are going to wait for tomorrow, though. Well, here are the latest pictures...like I said, they don't do it justice, but here they are anyways!

Blizzard of 2010

The media has officially named this storm the Blizzard of 2010. They are expecting the storm to have total accumulation taking us the the 3rd biggest storm of the area's history. Our immediate area, not so much though. Although when I woke up this morning, it was still snowing and it was hard to tell where I had shoveled last night, we have gotten so much ice that it has compacted the snow. I re-shoveled the walk way, and let me tell you, that it is a HEAVY snow! I am dreading having to tackle the driveway!

So our measurement as of 9 AM this morning was:

And that is 8.5 inches of snow, ice, and then snow again. I had to work at getting the tape measure down to the bottom because it wouldn't go through the layer of ice. We are supposed to get snow for the rest of the day. We are still under a blizzard warning until 10:00 PM when the snow will begin to slow up. I haven't heard from Rob yet this morning so hopefully he is catching a few Zzzz's. I talked to him about 1 AM and he was still going strong! So keep him in and all the others that have to be out there in your prayers!

And the Storm Goes On

It is 9:30 and the storm goes on! 6 inches and counting!

I just had to go out and do the first round of shoveling. Henny won't go outside if the deck is covered and she HAD to go outside. I also had to go clean the heating unit off.

I have taken advantage of Rob's absence by using his snow gear. Let me tell you...I will never make fun of him for wearing his concrete boots again...they are awesome! I came back in and my feet were warm and dry!

Maryland is under a state of emergency. As of 7 PM anyone on the road unnecessarily will be fined. It's great knowing things are that bad and Rob is out driving around in it. Very comforting! (That is sarcasm...just in case you didn't know.) According to the weather services we are about be in the pink area...that is the blizzard area. The wind is howling and Henny is going crazy with the sleet hitting the house. The accumulation levels ares still at 20-30 inches; that is even with the snow mixed with sleet and ice. The sleet and ice means power outages and I am praying that doesn't happen! If all goes well, I'll be reporting again in the morning. Good night all! Stay warm!

Storm Update

Well, it's been snowing non stop since 10:00 AM. It just started sticking about a quarter to 5 (an hour ago) and in that time we've already accumulated a little over an inch. I'll be pulling a solo mission during this storm. Rob is in Waldorf and will be pushing snow tonight and all day tomorrow. Jase loves it during this part of the storm because "the road disapears". We have amazing neighbors who keep our roads clear so only during this short period of time between when it starts to stick and when they start making their rounds does the road disapear.

I remember riding those Big Wheels around. I don't remember our house ever being blue (I think that is our house). But I remember the sound of those plastic tires roaring down the road. And of course, leave it to me to be outside playing like that in a dress.

The Storm Begins

The talk of the town this week has been the monster storm that is supposed to hit our area today. Rumor says it is going to be the the biggest and worst snow storm that we have ever seen! Accumulation is estimated between 6 inches to 4 feet of snow! (Our specific area is in the 2-4 feet range). Plus, we are still covered in a blanket of snow from the foot that fell last weekend.
And it has officially started. I am at work and have been keeping a close eye on the happenings outside to judge when I need to start heading home. At at exactly 10:00 AM we saw the first flakes fall. In the time it took me to move my car from the top of the drive at work to the bottom, it went from a few flakes, to coming down steady.
I will update as the storm progresses...considering we will probably be snowed in for awhile...what else will I have to do? LOL
